Whether you're a corporate giant, self-employed owner-operator like me, or somewhere in between, marketing - and its close cousin advertising - are probably something you think about a lot. You know that what you have to offer is awesome, but not enough of the world knows it too. There are hundred of ways to market your product or service. Inbound, Outbound, Digital, Social Media, Email, Influencer - it's enough to make your head spin!
I want to start by saying that like most small business owners, I'm not an expert in marketing. I know what I've picked up along the way. From where I sit, it looks like there's a lot of attention being paid to SEO (search engine optimization), and digital strategies. I totally get that (part of the purpose of this blog is to increase my site's SEO and digital presence). Digital marketing is the quickest and easiest way to reach the maximum number of people, or even best target the audience you want to find. The first step, getting people to see you, is a huge one, and without it, nothing else matters. But the next step, what they see and think of when they see (or hear... see where I'm going with this?) is really huge too. There is so much content out there these days. Just driving people to information about you or your product or service, which is hard enough, isn't enough.
You need to
Capture and hold their attention. Engage them.
Tell them a story about who you are, and do it before they move on.
Make it memorable. Make it stick.
Not surprisingly, I'm going to tell you that one of the best ways to do that is by leveraging the power of the human voice. We've got thousands of years of evolution programming our brains to pay attention to a human voice... not to mention our mothers scolding us as children "pay attention when someone is talking to you!" So if you're asking yourself how do I connect with my potential customers in a meaningful way, a way that touches us in a most fundamentally human manner, my answer to you is to hire a professional voice actor (or have someone do that for you). Of course I'd be remiss to point out that if you want to find a professional male voice actor that can represent your product or service with an authentic, warm yet authoritative... and maybe a little folksy tone (think Sam Elliot or JK Simmons), then I personally think I'd be a fantastic choice for you. But self-promotion aside, I strongly believe in the value of adding authentic human voices to marketing, and if I'm not the right voice, still feel free to reach out to me. I'd be happy to recommend someone I think would be good, or someone who could help you find the right voice.
Don't be a silent presence, let your voice be heard!
